About the project
"...I have envisioned and produced a literally spectacular, yet contemplative art where  light is manipulated
into imagery that is stunning in it’s color and intensity. An art that incorporates sculpture, the 2 dimensional
image, time and the elements into an experience that is an interaction of art and environments."
About the project,  June 5 2008,

Solar Graph Projections use mirrors to concentrate and direct sun light to create an image.I  originally
conceived of the idea for a
project I produced at Pyramid Atlantic in Silver Spring Maryland.
Solar Graphics is the name that I give to this project due to the fact that I use sun light to create images.
Helen Fredericks of Pyramid Atlantic gave me permission to create a work of art on the roof of their new
location in Silver Spring. I sought to create something completely new, an illusion or mirage that would hover
above the space.

Understanding the optics of the mirage I also came to believe that the requirements to create an atmospheric lens
was beyond me at the time.

Yet I was still able to produce  imagery using one aspect of my mirage idea, that aspect was the solar graphic
projector. Using a mirror I could reflect sun light directly onto a surface of a building or screen and create daylight
images. These images could be whole analogous - modular or pixilated. Each tech suited to the requirements of
the type and distance of the image being generated.
With such a paint bush as this I would be able to create images unlike any ever created before.
I have also created a solar images clock. A
Chronograph in as the elapsed amount of time measured for each
interval of images across the field of perception would be constant
  A reverse
sundial to be precise. The projection of a solar generated image unto a set location created a
problem to be resolved. For people who saw the art work the image would eventually move off the plane of the
screen.

There were two solutions to this problem of image drift.

One solution was to build a rotating plate for the mirror to sit on. The sun also changed it’s position growing
higher in the sky, thus the mirror’s angle of reflection would also have to adapt to stay within the plane.  I found
myself designing a
heliostat “{note a Heliostat is machine, a (mirror) used to tract the sun and in an array
becomes a concentrator of
solar energy for the production of solar power}
The other solution was to keep the projector stationary to have no moving parts save the energy of the sun and
the motion of the earth. Only instead of one projector I would have many projectors each one positioned to
introduce a new image or sets of images as the sun moved across the sky.
It creates images that are spectacular in the sun light; even when sunlight is interrupted the mirrors themselves
and the screens where also strong works of art by themselves. They interact with the environment, reflecting the
surroundings within their sculptural bodies and with the interplay of shadow and light illuminating the oracle
screens
I planned a traveling Art expedition using this medium,  "
The Running Man Expedition" The concept of
which was to take the exhibition to different locations. Thus all aspects of the work needed to be mobile. This
design aspect is included in the works and simplifies the task of adapting to and setting up in different locations.
Star project!
